Joining yarn colours (without having to sew the ends in)

This looping method of joining different yarns is easy once you get the hang of it.

Here it is in easy steps:

four stitches before the colour change is required, stop knitting
Cut the old colour yarn about 12 cm
Loop the two colours around each other with about 6cm doubled over
Knit the old colour yarn doubled over to the end of the row
You may need to pull a little more or less yarn to get the join exactly at the edge of the work
adjusting the length of yarn to get the colour change at the edge
At the edge, the new colour is ready to knit
two stitches with the new colour doubled
Four stitches with double yarn will hold it securely
The front of the knitting after colour change
The back of the knitting
Trim the ends
