Community Bunting Project

This project started in Motspur Park to celebrate the station’s centenary. A group of local residents got together to celebrate this. As a part of that celebration, we decorated the area with re-usable fabric bunting that local people made.

The Motspur Park 100 celebration was registered with Railway 200, a national celebration of the 200th anniversary of railways in the UK. As a result, the Motspur Park 100 celebrations were nominated and won an award the National Community Rail Awards. The award will be on show at West Barnes library soon!

Textile artist Sarah McAlister co-ordinated this project alongside Made in Merton, a local grassroots group that promotes the textile heritage of Merton. This project took free community bunting workshops out across the borough and has been fully funded by Merton council.
